HEATING

Heating can be achieved from a variety of sources. The most popular methods include overhead incandescent bulbs, flexwatt, heat cable, and under tank heaters (UTH). Thermometers should always be used to monitor temperatures. Never ever guess your cage temperatures. Another good thing to have handy is a temp gun. This eliminates the need for a thermometer in every cage, although we prefer using thermometers, especially in a rack system. A hydrometer is also helpful to monitor your humidity.

CAGE SIZE

One method is to figure out the appropriately sized enclosure, take the length added to the width, times two. So a 6x2 foot cage could house a 16 foot snake. Another method is the enclosure is half as long as the snake and a third as deep as the snake is long. So, if you had a 6 foot long snake, your enclosure would be 3 x 2. Third, a general recommendation is to provide one square foot of space per foot of snake.

CLEANING

We clean all of our cages and water bowls with Original Listerine (50% Listerine/50% Water). It cleans the cages beautifully, leaving them disinfected without the need to rinse, and leaves a very clean smell in your snake room. It will not leave streaks on your glass. This was recommended to us by Sam Bearden of Beardens' Burms. We can't thank him enough. We love it!

RECORD KEEPING

We, personally use Metzcal software. We have tried almost all the others and none compare to the capabilities of this software. We wholeheartedly recommend this software.
